YU’s Ferkauf School of Psychology Debuts Premier Anytime Online Master’s in Mental Health Counseling

World-class faculty. Clinical placements close to home. A prestigious degree—on your schedule.

Responding to an unprecedented demand for licensed mental health professionals nationwide, 91Ƭ’s Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology is expanding access to its world-class training through a new “Anytime Online” Master’s in Mental Health Counseling. Designed for students balancing work, family and community commitments, the program delivers the same rigorous academics, clinical preparation and faculty mentorship as Ferkauf’s on-campus degree—with the flexibility to learn anytime, from anywhere.

Ferkauf’s Anytime Online program marks a major advancement in online education within the Jewish community and beyond, challenging the perception that remote learning must come at the expense of quality.

“This isn’t simply about putting lectures online,” said Dr. Leslie Halpern, Dean of the Ferkauf School of Psychology. “We’ve thoughtfully redesigned the experience to preserve the transformative quality of a Ferkauf education—intellectually, clinically and personally—while providing the flexibility today’s students need.”

A Flexible Path to Licensure—Without Leaving Home

The 60-credit master’s degree program prepares graduates for New York State licensure as Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC), with a curriculum rooted in trauma-informed care and clinical excellence. Students participate in a mix of live online classes and asynchronous coursework and assignments that can be completed on their own schedule—all taught by distinguished faculty and practitioners. Clinical placements are tailored to each student’s geographic location and interests, offering hands-on experience in diverse communities.

While the format is online, the expectations are high. With small cohort sizes, one-on-one faculty mentorship and advanced learning technology, Ferkauf delivers a premium educational experience—one that intentionally raises the bar for what an online program can be.

“Unlike many budget online programs, ours is built to ensure deep engagement and professional growth,” said Danielle Wozniak, MSW, PhD, Vice President for Global Strategy and Business Development at 91Ƭ. “We’ve invested heavily in the resources, technology and student support needed to make this a world-class training experience—no matter where you live. Our communities deserve exceptional practitioners and that is exactly what we will give them.”

Designed for Real Life

For many in Jewish communities, where family obligations, religious observance or distance from a major university can limit educational options, the program offers something rare: a path to high-level professional advancement that fits real life.

“This program was created with real people in mind—parents raising children, professionals making a career change, and students in communities with no graduate programs nearby,” said Jozette Kauffman, Associate Director for Graduate Enrollment. “It’s rigorous, graduate-level training designed for real life—making a life-changing education possible without compromise.”

Designed to address a critical national shortage of mental health professionals, the program enables students to train where they live and serve where they’re needed most. Fully accredited by the New York State Department of Education, it meets the highest standards of clinical education and licensure preparation, bringing clinical excellence, cultural awareness and deep personal commitment to the work.

“We’re training students to meet people where they are—with skill, sensitivity and purpose,” said Ferkauf Associate Dean Randall Richardson-Vejlgaard, a faculty member in the program. “This is profoundly human work, and our graduates are ready to show up with compassion and professionalism—wherever they’re needed and no matter where they live or what commitments they balance.”

Applications are now being accepted on a rolling basis. For more information or to apply, prospective students can contact Jozette Kauffman at 646.592.6687 or jozette.kauffman@yu.edu.
